Gen-Xer to Millennials: 2020 is coming, and it is really up to you.
I am a gen-Xer, back in the day we were told we were lazy, couch potatoes, who only played video games, and were not driven and just watched MTV (Yeah, MTV was cool back then).
Now, we are silent witnessing a fight between “old” (Boomers) and “new” (Millennial) values. We are busy raising our children, and making sure America remains competitive.
We all know that younger generations are more liberal, what is not clear is if you will remain liberal as you get older.
A colleague of mine told me a saying: “If you are not a liberal when you are young, you don’t have a heart, and if you are not a conservative when you are old, you don’t have a brain”.
Do I agree with him? Not at all.
It has to do with the ability to keep that inner child alive. My own children ask me “Dad, why if you are old act childish?”. I continue playing video games with them, I watch cartoons, have lightsaber fights with my them, and remain hopeful for the future.
But at this junction in our country, I can’t but keep hearing JFK’s words from his Moon speech.
“We choose to go to the moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard, because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one which we intend to win, and the others, too." — JFK
So what is it going to be?
Are we going to let climate change radically affect the lives of every living organism in the planet?
Are we going to let our economy shrink because the working class has only enough money to get by?
Are we going to be hostages to our fears, and give up our hopes and dreams?
Are we going to “grow up” and forget the values of empathy, and friendship?
Or are we going to do something about it?
It is not enough just to post, it is not enough to just retweet, it is not enough to instagram a selfie. The most important thing you can do in 2020, is to stand up, go to the polls, and vote.
You are now the soul of America. You are not longer its future, but its future is in your hands.
Please help us in giving our children a world that inspire them: Full of life, and potential.
And as a first step, listen to the stories of people who have chosen the hard path, and give them a hand.
And there is a new crop of politicians who are really worthy of our votes:
